SMARTER

Having been involved in the personal development space for a number of years, it is wonderful to find slightly different acronyms that can enhance how we feel about things. You are probably familiar with the SMART objectives introduced to us in the early 80s’ by George Doran. When we are setting ourselves some objectives, we should ensure that they are:-

SSPECIFIC
MMEASURABLE
AACHIEVABLE
RRELEVANT
TTIMEBOUND

What a SMARTER objective does is appeal to someone that perhaps wants to stretch themselves a bit more and encourage even greater achievement. I came across this when exploring some writing on goal setting theory, in particular, the works of Michael Hyatt.

SSPECIFIC
MMEASURABLE
AACHIEVABLE
RRISKY
TTIMEBOUND
EEXCITING
RRELEVANT

This subtle change can motivate a person in a slightly different way than simply using the traditional SMART objective.
